Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?
I know of 3 marriages between CH couples from my year and the year above. I’m sure there are many more. Certainly there’s a couple from my sister’s year that are married... Two separate friends of mine (one was a year below and one was 2 years above) got together and eventually married when they me...

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?
My understanding is that there is far less alcohol on a Saturday night as the house parents have breathalysers - no Grecians’ club either I LOVE IT PLUM ! Breathalysers at CH. Are they often used, and if so, what are the consequences ? 35 mg being the driving limit, is there a limit for pupils ? I’...

Re: Duncan Noel-Paton [FOUND]
Just spent some time going back through this thread. I believe the large castle type house mentioned in places is Holmbush House at Faygate which is just off the dual carriageway from Horsham to Crawley. I'm sure Plum would be able to confirm this. Lovely oldie worldly pub near by as well. Just spo...

The band leading the People’s Procession at the Cenotaph tomorrow
I’m sure most of you will have heard by now but if not, here’s the email from the development director... I wanted to let you know that the CH Band will have the great honour of leading a special procession of 10,000 people past the Cenotaph in London this Sunday. The procession - called The People'...

Re: The Old Blue 2018
On the 'flags' issue, as I recall, anyone has the right to fly the Cross of St. George, but MUST have local authority permission to fly the Union Standard, (Union Jack). Nope - not anymore see: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/15438/fly...

Re: A letter from the CHOBA board
Wow, that's quite a coincidence that there are two Michael Porteouses (rare name) who are both roughly the same age and both employed in private schools... Indeed. What a coincidence. A photo, if possible, of the 2nd., (West Country) Porteous might be interesting. I’ve not found one but his wife is...

Re: A letter from the CHOBA board
I would think it’s a different Michael Porteous - there’s a Canon Michael Porteous in the West Kerrier benefice near Penzance who is more likely to be him...

Re: Explanation of the 'Tube'
When I was at CH, I was a vertigo guide and there was one occasion when we took (with a member of the maintenance staff) a group of engineers down the tube around the dining hall area.
In recent years, there have been tours on OB day - nothing recently due to the rebuild of the kitchens.

Re: Attitudes to sports
Talking of sport, oldies among us will remember the athletics track, which was dug up some years ago and turned into a carpark. Now, under a revolutionary plan, the carpark is to be dug up and turned into - would you believe? - an athletics track. That's progress. No wonder the school has to keep a...

Re: All this is incredibly sad
A couple of points - whilst I obviously didn’t sleep in the houses (until I was a Grecian), I was up and with the house for shoe inspection at 7.15 in Maine B and only home when it was time for bed. This continued in Maine A (no shoe inspection though by then!) I do not recall eating a meal in term ...
