Those of you who knew him will be sad to hear that David passed away on Saturday evening, after only a few months of well - earned retirement.

A cracking teacher, who inspired an interest in engineering.
Taught me for Maths-mechanics at A-Level, and we spent so much time talking about what seemed like non-maths, but that helped me so much later in life - an ability to analyse and get to the root of a problem.
I particularly loved his theories on the people who lived in 2 dimensions, living in "flat-land", along with his theories on traffic cones - most ingenious!
I believe he built his own computer from scratch - i.e. his own circuits etc - in the early 80s?
A sad loss....

Very sad loss.
Feel I have to say that I didn't get on with him as a teacher, a bright man but I only got Es in Mechanics at A-level despite As and Bs in Pure and Stats.
He had an excellent view on the National Lottery when it first started - wanted to broadcast to the world (and his maths sets) how rotten the odds were!
