Those of you who knew him will be sad to hear that David passed away on Saturday evening, after only a few months of well - earned retirement.

I thought it was him. He only taught me for a term or so once a week so didn't know him as well as some of the other teachers.

I didn't realise he had been there that long. I have him to thank for passing my maths O Level - a miracle in itself

he also had brass shrapnel pieces lodged in his head from where a cadet had a neglegent discharge with a rifle (blank cartridges spit out tiny fragments of brass at super sonic speed)

sure this didn't help.

I must be getting really old cos all my teachers are dying...
Sad news indeed - Dolly O Meara was a brilliant mathematician...
unfortunately that meant that I couldn't keep up with him - and as a result I only scraped a C in O level.
Didn't stop me working in finance tho.....

A cracking teacher, who inspired an interest in engineering.
Taught me for Maths-mechanics at A-Level, and we spent so much time talking about what seemed like non-maths, but that helped me so much later in life - an ability to analyse and get to the root of a problem.

I particularly loved his theories on the people who lived in 2 dimensions, living in "flat-land", along with his theories on traffic cones - most ingenious!

I believe he built his own computer from scratch - i.e. his own circuits etc - in the early 80s?

A sad loss....

Very sad loss.

Feel I have to say that I didn't get on with him as a teacher, a bright man but I only got Es in Mechanics at A-level despite As and Bs in Pure and Stats.

He had an excellent view on the National Lottery when it first started - wanted to broadcast to the world (and his maths sets) how rotten the odds were!
