Very sad. My memories of A-Level maths lessons with him still make me laugh today. He was unique !
I spent a number of evenings in the pub with him during "Signals" camps. On a CCF trip to Germany he pulled rank on the regular 2nd Lt. assigned to us sending him to sit in the back of the truck with us whilst DJOM sat in the front - he was a 1st Lt !!

That's just amazing - he told us that very same story on my third form (in 1990). Other subjects he covered with us were concorde's nose and the bus service on the Isle of Wight. Did anyone else ever witness his pathological hatred of wasps? If ever a wasp came into the room he would go mental and demand it be killed instantly - I think he may have been allergic to them.

Heh, I remember that...it was so easy to side track him.
I was in set 7, so I think would have rather have told us about something more intersting.
Looking back, I'm pretty ashamed of myself as I was a cocky little b*****d...

My favourite memory of DO'M was on the occassions that he was on duty in the Club and there was a band playing. He would spend the entire night with those yellow foam ear plugs in that meant he couldn't hear what anyone was ordering. Classic!

DJOM was a very clever and under-appreciated teacher.
After going through two boards worth of calculations and getting what seemed like a reasonable answer out of the end he would soemtimes get agitated and shuffle about sure that "something's wrong." Something always would be and he'd always find what. It was very creepy. He seemed to have some kind of sixth sense for silly errors.
So sad to hear he only got to enjoy a short period of retirement.
